Evelyn M Kress
Evelyn M. Kress, 89, of Centerburg, Ohio passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Evelyn was born on October 8, 1934, in Marion, Ohio to her parents Harvey and Mary (Keener) Hatcher. After graduating high school, she made a career for herself as a beautician. In 1958, Evelyn married the love of her life, Bernard Kress Jr. The two shared 65 fruitful years together.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Bernard Kress Jr.; her children Michael, Deborah (Brian), Mary, and Daniel (Kimberly); grandchildren: Jessica (Tim), Philip (Jennifer), Alicia (Mike), David (Molly), Anthony, Devon, Savanah, and Renee (John); great-grandchildren: Cooper, Luca, Shay, McKenna, and Aviana; brother Robert (Terra Jo) and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn joins in the rest her parents Harvey and Mary Hatcher; brothers Alvin, Paul, Harvey, Marvin, and Bradley. She will be dearly missed.
Evelyn was a Godly woman who let the way of her actions precede her words. She was first and foremost a mother and a dutiful wife. Her husband Bernard says, “The two most beautiful words she ever said to me were ‘I do.’” She was loved as much as she loved. As her family continued to flourish, she became a grandmother and then a great grandmother. This was the blessing that brought the circle of her life complete. She loved the grandchildren with all her heart.
Evelyn took pleasure in simplicity. She loved to cook and was very good at it. She loved birds and watching them and reflect. At the center of it all was Evelyn’s faith. She was a committed parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. She was a devout servant and lover of God. Her way of giving back to her community was to serve in the St. John Neumann’s Women’s Group, who take charge of providing a meal for families who have experienced loss and grief. Now it is their turn to serve her in faith and love. Evelyn was this way. She put far more into the world than she took out.
Arrangements were made with Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel in Sunbury, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, July 17 from 5 to 7 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day at St. John Neumann Catholic Church (9633 E, 9633 OH-37, Sunbury, OH 43074) at 11 am with an hour of calling before mass. A procession to Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center, Ohio for burial will immediately follow mass. All are welcome to attend.
